Killed for What Comes Naturally
Cats don’t know the meaning of abstinence. Dogs don’t understand the need for contraceptives. Their instincts tell them to breed - and breed a lot. That’s when it becomes a problem.
A cat can breed by the time it’s six months old and a dog can bear young by nine months of age. Born and abandoned, pets become a public nuisance. Yes, they rummage through your trash. dig in your flowerbeds and chase your mailman. But the also spread disease - including toxoplasmosis and rabies.
In addition to the thousands of pets that the Kansas Humane Society and Animal Control have to kill, many more die on the streets of starvation, exposure, car accidents or disease.
